Helix Mattress Review 2019

Helix Mattress Review 2019

Many possible combinations of needs and preferences are met by the Helix Mattress. Founded in 2015, this brand has made its way in the industry through the e-commerce model. But unlike how some of its popular competitors started, its leadership team has not been a fan of one-size-fits-all creations.

The company offers 2 lines: Helix and Helix Luxe. Under each option, you have 6 mattresses to choose from. This Helix Mattress Review will introduce you to these offerings. Your sleeping position, feel preference, and body type will be the top factors that will help you find a match. If you don’t know what you like, Helix will get you started with a sleep quiz.

With variety come flexibility and customization. And this online mattress brand already has plenty for you to consider. It won’t be for everyone, though. Check out the sections Why You Should Buy A Helix Mattress and Why You Should Not Buy A Helix Mattress to see if it’s the right fit.

Construction & Materials

The technique behind the different models is simple. Each contains a variation of the foam-and-spring combo that Helix has chosen for the design of its 6 main models. To give you different feels, it uses all or some of the 4 types of foam that make up its foam layers (4 inches). The 8-inch coil base is found in said core models.

The comfort and support layers of each design may have any or all of the following: Helix Dynamic Foam, Memory Plus Foam, polyurethane foam, and DuraDense Foam or the support foam. The dynamic foam is a proprietary material that feels like a foam-and-latex hybrid. The memory foam is a blend of varying memory foam types to deliver different firmness levels. Together, they make up your comfort layer.

For support, you have the polyfoam and/or the DuraDense Foam, which can be found at the base. The foam base sits in between the bottom and core pocketed coil units. The dual coil system provides the bounce that is reminiscent of traditional innerspring beds.

Let’s not forget the cover! There’s an inner cover that sports the Helix Two Touch Design. It’s highly breathable and gives off a neat look. Completing the mattress, though, is one more cover. This one can be unzipped and machine-washed for easier cleaning and maintenance. An Ultra-Cool Cover featuring a phase change material can be purchased on top of this.

The dynamic foam and polyfoam inside the Helix mattresses are certified safe and free from harmful chemicals by CertiPUR-US.

Firmness & Feel

The personalization of Helix mattresses is established and deep. Meaning, your needs, and preferences will dictate the firmness and design that you will be matched with. How exactly does it work? Let’s walk you through the steps. You will take the quiz that we shared earlier. It will ask about your information, such as your preferred size, number of sleepers, your height, and weight.

Then, you will specify your sleeping position every night: back, stomach, or side. You can also tick a box if you toss and turn around while snoozing or can’t decide your sleeper type. Next, you need to choose from Soft, Medium, and Firm feels. You can also check that you are unsure about your firmness preference for now.

After that, you will be asked if you are suffering from back pain. If you are having this issue, you can say so for the Helix algorithm to crunch the data. Now, just wait for your results. Helix Midnight is the best selling mattress, which means it is often the match chosen by the customers whether suggested by the algorithm or arrived at on their own.

Once you submit the questionnaire, the New York factory will begin building your mattress based on your results. If you are not satisfied by the match, you can speak with a customer support agent to make amends and further customize your mattress.

Alternatively, you can go straight to the product page and pick the mattress that was assigned to you.

Cooling

With their foams and coils, Helix mattresses have the ability to sleep cool at night. Factors like airflow facilitated at the base and cooling properties in the covers make this possible. The add-on cover can potentially increase comfort through its phase-change technology. This allows the mattress to adapt to your temperature, cooling you down or warming you up accordingly.

Cooling, as well as temperature neutrality, is a welcome quality in all-foams. But Helix models contain a smaller portion of foam layers within their construction. This makes it a hybrid type in our book. And hybrids do not share the overheating issue of foam types, especially memory foam mattresses.

Edge Support & Sinkage

All-foam mattresses may have one downside that is important for those who sleep near the side: they’re likely to have weak edge support. If this is the case, you’ll experience deep compression and the roll-off feel. This can be a bummer especially if you also like to sit at the perimeter. This area may be prone to early sagging, which can leave the surface of the bed uneven over time.

Helix mattresses will not make you suffer that fate, thanks to the coils they sport at the base. The spring system provides more solid and stable support at the perimeter. If you happen to roll toward the edge, you won’t feel as if you will go straight to the ground.

At the same time, you and your co-sleeper can benefit from the extended surface area. Good edge support does expand the space you can lie on.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is another performance-related factor that you should take note of. This is particularly crucial for light sleepers with co-sleepers. Motion transfer can deliver movements across the bed, causing shakes and disruptions when someone tosses, turns or gets in and out of bed. The potential problem here is that the light sleeper may be awakened and find it hard to drift off again.

Good thing Helix mattresses can isolate movement significantly. Mostly responsible for this is the set of pocketed micro coils at the core. These springs are designed to contain motion where it is generated, so unlike their predecessor, those innerspring mattresses usually made of Bonnell springs.

Helix pretty much works hard in this department, as expected from hybrid mattresses, which is the mattress type its offerings can be categorized into.

Pricing

Premium all-foam mattresses can command up to a staggering $12,000. All-foam memory foam mattresses sold in boxes, however, have brought the market average down to $500 to $1,500. Some luxurious, traditional ones can rack up $3,000 to $5,000. We are pleased to report that the various Helix Mattress models, queen edition, retail at below $1,000

As we said earlier, this is related to the online mattress model adopted by the company. By removing physical maintenance costs and middlemen, it is able to dish out products that fall within the affordable luxury range. (Recent move to physical stores, however, has been reported among its competitors.)

But if you require further customization, you can get a plus size or a tall bed for just under $200. That should still cost a lot less than the high-end, conventional models. The value is bumped up for those who need to snooze on a thicker mattress, be it for weight support or relief from a condition.

For those who cannot pay upfront, check if you are eligible for financing.

Other Factors

Just like its counterparts in the online mattress space, Helix Mattress is all-out in giving perks to its customers. Let’s with the customary free shipping. It may not cost you, but you will have to wait for a little for the delivery of your order. The bed is made to order and will take an average of 10 days to reach your doorstep.

If that isn’t an issue, then you’ll be happy to hear about its the perk your purchase comes with: 100 night of sleep trial. This means you can test out the mattress for around 3 months. Within the period, you can return it if it turns out to be a wrong match. The company’s return policy sets up the discarded mattress for donation or recycling. As for you, you will get a full refund.

On the other hand, you can choose to keep it. As the original owner of the mattress, you can claim the 10-year warranty over defects with the limits and exceptions set by Helix.

Why You Should Buy A Helix Mattress

A Helix Mattress is for you if you want customizable options. The number of models available under Helix and Helix Luxe covers your position, feel, and relief preferences. The company also uses customers’ personal data in designing its offerings. With this variety, you have the chance to find an ideal match compared to when you’re stuck with one-size-fits-all options.

If you want the bounce of spring more than anything, this brand got your back. It complements this construction with foam that has a more neutral feel. This means there is just enough give, contouring, or responsiveness where you need each. Motion isolation is not compromised despite the presence and performance of the coils.

Do you share your sleeping space with another person? Both of you probably have different likes and dislikes about beds. But the Helix Mattress can help resolve your issues about firmness. Its split or dual firmness choices are here to assist co-sleepers in finding the right deal.

Why You Should Not Buy A Helix Mattress

Are you a fan of the close conformity that comes with memory foam? You will probably be underwhelmed by the neutral foam feel of these mattress models. They still function like memory foam but with minimal performance. The good thing about this is it won’t let you feel like you’re sinking all the way down.

If you do not see yourself enjoying a bouncy bed, this one is also not for you. All Helix mattresses sports coils which make them responsive and bouncy. A light sleeper who tends to wake up from getting aware of the slightest movement might not benefit from it. It might not be great either if you and your co-sleepers fall on the heavy end.

The mattresses are within the average price range of their types. But some customers may still find it pricey. If you are on a tight budget, you can have a problem with regard to paying your mattress in cash. You must have around $900 to afford some of its queen beds.

The Verdict

Helix Mattress shows consistency in its creation and customization of mattress models. This quality is reflected in almost every aspect of its work. Although the beds are slightly different from each other design-wise, the depth of personalization underscores the subtle nuances that make them unique to you.

Buying a Helix model is a good place for you to start if you are a newbie in online mattress shopping. The beds are compressed and packed in a box for easier shipping. We mentioned the pros and cons above, including the waiting time you must allot. So if a longer wait isn’t an issue, we can conclude by saying the pros of owning a Helix dominates the cons.

What do you think of this conclusion? Also, did you take the quiz? What results did you get? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.
